Building blocks and lego on table at Rottingdean Whiteway Pre-School

Safety & Wellbeing

The safety of our children is of paramount importance to us at Whiteway Pre School, and we aim to provide a safe and secure, caring, happy and stimulating environment where each child is valued as an individual, and all children and adults are treated with respect.

The pre-school is registered to care for 24 children per session between the ages of 2 and 5 years, with our adult to child ratio complying with, and often exceeding, legal requirements. The premises are very secure, the entrance to the Whiteway Centre itself is kept locked at all times, and only official users of the Centre are permitted access. Entry to the pre-school area itself is via a

single-entry door that is kept closed and securely locked whist the session is in progress. We have a secure outdoor playground where the children can play in absolute safety and always under adult supervision. We access the outdoor area daily, and in the summer months we practise a 'free-flow' system.

Our premises comprise a large hall, two toilets and a kitchen area. The hall has a southerly aspect and thus gets a lot of natural light, making it very bright and pleasant. To enhance and support our learning and development programme we take the children on short educational walks around Rottingdean to explore various features of the local environment. The safety of the children is our prime consideration during these outings and the children are under strict supervision at all times.

It is from birth to five that we see the greatest growth and learning for all children. We have a team of fully qualified, experienced and caring staff who are committed to providing our children with the very best quality education. We offer individual care and attention made possible by a high ratio of adults to children.

We use our awareness of the developmental stages of children to identify and respond to any area of learning needs. To support our teaching all members of staff are able to attend training sessions throughout the year. We are continually evaluating and developing our practise so that we can continue to offer your child the very best education during their crucial early years.
